FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Products & Materials

What materials do you carry?

We carry a wide selection of landscaping and hardscape materials, including mulch, topsoil, limestone, decorative gravel, creek rock, sand, straw, pine straw, pavers, retaining wall block, natural stone, and more. Product availability may vary throughout the season, so contact us before making a special trip for a specific material.

Do you sell materials to the public?

Yes! Eddington Materials is open to homeowners, contractors, landscapers, and anyone else working on an outdoor project. No contractor account or minimum purchase is required.

Can I purchase small quantities?

Absolutely. Bulk materials can be purchased in smaller quantities or by the ton or cubic yard, depending on the product. We can help you determine the right amount for your project.

Do you offer material samples?

Small samples may be available for certain bulk materials. We always recommend seeing decorative stone, mulch, pavers, and other color-sensitive products in person, since photos and screens can make colors appear different.

Can you special-order materials?

Yes. We can special-order many pavers, retaining wall products, natural stone products, and other landscape materials that we may not regularly stock. Special-order products may require a deposit and additional lead time.

Do you carry pavers and retaining wall block?

Yes. We offer pavers, retaining wall block, steps, edging, and other hardscape products from trusted manufacturers. Our team can help you compare styles, colors, sizes, and availability.

Estimating Your Project

How do I know how much material I need?

The amount depends on the size of the area, desired depth, and type of material being used. Bring us your measurements, including length, width, and planned depth, and we can help estimate how much material you will need.

How much area does one ton of gravel cover?

Coverage varies by stone size, compaction, and installation depth. As a general guideline, one ton of gravel typically covers approximately:

  • 100 square feet at 2 inches deep

  • 80 square feet at 3 inches deep

  • 60 square feet at 4 inches deep

Larger decorative stone and creek rock may provide less coverage.

How much area does one cubic yard of mulch cover?

One cubic yard of mulch typically covers approximately:

  • 160 square feet at 2 inches deep

  • 110 square feet at 3 inches deep

  • 80 square feet at 4 inches deep

For most landscape beds, we recommend installing mulch approximately 2 to 3 inches deep.

Should I order extra material?

We generally recommend ordering approximately 5% to 10% extra to account for compaction, uneven ground, spillage, and measurement differences. Extra material is especially helpful when installing pavers or products with natural color and size variations.

Can you help me choose the right material?

Yes. Tell us what you are building, where the material will be installed, and what you want the finished area to look like. We can explain the differences between available products and help you choose an appropriate option.

Pickup

Can I pick up materials myself?

Yes. Customers are welcome to pick up bulk and palletized materials during regular business hours. Please check in with the office when you arrive so we can prepare your order and direct you to the correct loading area.

What type of vehicle or trailer should I bring?

The appropriate vehicle depends on the material and quantity being purchased. Bulk stone, soil, and mulch can become extremely heavy. Your vehicle or trailer must be rated to safely carry the weight of your order.

Our team may reduce the quantity loaded if we believe the requested amount would exceed your vehicle or trailer’s safe carrying capacity. Protecting your suspension from making terrible life choices is a group effort.

Will you load my truck or trailer?

Yes. Bulk materials are loaded using equipment, and palletized products can be loaded when your vehicle or trailer is suitable for the product’s size and weight. Customers are responsible for securing their loads before leaving the property.

Can materials be loaded into the bed of an SUV or van?

For safety and cleanliness, loose bulk materials are generally loaded only into open truck beds or appropriate trailers. Bagged or properly packaged products may be placed inside enclosed vehicles at the customer’s discretion.

Delivery

Do you offer delivery?

Yes. We offer local delivery for bulk and palletized materials. Delivery pricing and availability depend on the location, material, quantity, and type of truck required.

How much can you deliver at one time?

Delivery capacity depends on the material:

  • Mulch: Up to approximately 14 cubic yards

  • Bulk stone: Up to approximately 5 tons

  • Palletized products: Up to approximately 11,000 pounds or six pallets

Some orders may require multiple deliveries.

How are palletized materials unloaded?

Palletized products are delivered using a towable forklift when site conditions allow. The forklift helps us place products closer to the project area than a standard curbside delivery, but access must be safe, firm, level, and free of obstacles.

Where will my material be placed?

Bulk materials are dumped in one accessible location selected by the customer and approved by the driver. Palletized materials will be placed as close to the requested area as safely possible.

Drivers cannot travel over soft ground, steep slopes, septic systems, narrow areas, freshly poured concrete, or surfaces that may be damaged by heavy equipment.

Do I need to be present for delivery?

You may not need to be present if the delivery location has been clearly marked and payment arrangements have been completed. However, someone should be available by phone in case the driver has questions or cannot safely access the requested location.

What should I do before my delivery arrives?

Please make sure the delivery area is:

  • Clearly marked

  • Free of vehicles and other obstacles

  • Wide enough for the delivery truck

  • Firm, level, and accessible

  • Clear of low branches, wires, gates, and underground hazards

Customers are responsible for identifying septic systems, irrigation components, invisible fences, drainage systems, and other hidden obstacles.

Can you deliver during bad weather?

Delivery may be delayed or rescheduled during heavy rain, snow, storms, or other conditions that make the site unsafe. Our drivers make the final decision regarding safe access and placement.

Orders, Payments & Returns

Do I need to place my order in advance?

Walk-in purchases are welcome, but calling ahead is recommended for large quantities, deliveries, palletized products, and special-order items. Advance notice helps us confirm availability and prepare your order.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept commonly used payment methods. Please contact the office for current payment options, contractor account information, or questions about larger orders.

Can I return unused material?

Return eligibility depends on the product and its condition. Loose bulk materials, opened products, special-order items, and certain palletized materials may not be returnable. Please confirm return terms before purchasing.

Will the material look exactly like the sample or photograph?

Natural stone, gravel, mulch, pavers, and other landscape products may vary in color, texture, size, and appearance. Samples and photographs should be treated as general representations rather than exact matches.

For hardscape projects, we recommend purchasing enough material at one time and blending products from multiple pallets during installation.

Landscaping Services

Do you install the materials you sell?

Can you provide an estimate for installation?

Yes. Contact us with information about your project, location, measurements, photographs, and the services you are considering. Our team will review the request and explain the next steps.
